Yes, the new treadmill is here… and the fun begins!
Getting to know my new fitness machine
The treadmill arrived on Saturday. It arrived too late to set it up though, so I left it until Sunday. I wasn’t looking forward to setting it up as I always find putting pre-packed things a chore & very frustrating.
On Sunday afternoon, I opened the box and shuffled it out…It’s a little heavy but manageable. Then I looked at the manual, and it quickly became obvious that I’m going to have a frustrating time with it. It’s Chinese manufactured and the manual is in English, but not written by a native English speaker; so some of the sentences are very confusing.
I think I’m going to have to read and re-read this several times over a few weeks – maybe months – to get the full gist of what it’s trying to tell me.
To add to that some of the screws do not match what is stated in the manual either.
I decided to set it up anyway and see how it goes, and not wait until I know how to use all the functions & settings.
I’ll use the manual settings which seem to be pretty straightforward. The programmed settings seem too confusing, so I won’t bother with it for now.
I plugged it in and it started bleeping!!! Why? I searched around it but couldn’t find a reason for this noise.
I couldn’t see anything in the manual to explain this. After turning it on and off a few times with the same bleeping sound, I decided to stick the magnetic disc, which is on a long red ribbon, onto the space in the centre of the console….hallelujah…the noise stopped!!!! I didn’t see anything about this in the manual, but maybe after I go through it a few times I may find some reference to it.
It turned out that this is the safety key and the machine will not move without it. the magnetic part goes on the console and the other end to be attached to me.
The machine will automatically stop if I slip or fall while I’m working out..
I planned to try it out on the manual setting for a few minutes and ended up doing an hour on it.
This is going to work out…exercising the way I enjoy….walking.
I discovered that it was easy to keep walking.
I just need to take things slowly and not overdo the exercising.
Some Things To Note
- Get the tv remote, phone and water before starting
- Put some sort of padding on the dashboard to dampen the rattling noise of the phone while it’s running
- I started at speed 2 and gradually worked up to 5.5 – I’ll start at 4.5 in future the lower speed is too slow for me.
- Remember to take a towel, it gets very sweaty during the session and my glasses keep falling off
- I did 1 hour today – first try – and feel like I can do this for the week and increase as I go along
- I did a 4 minute HIIT beforehand and felt great afterwards, but I don’t think I’ll need to continue.
- I must set up my MapMyfitness app as I’m not sure about the readings on the console just yet. I can follow it on MapMyFitness.
- Must get a treadmill mat to rest it on instead of my rug
So far I’ve found it confusing to set up, and problems to remove the screws and bolts to fold it up and put it away.
I think I’ll factor in setting-up and putting-away as part of the exercise process.

Good job Thelma!! It looks as though you’re determined to keep fit throughout the winter and can use this as a way to motivate your way through any setbacks the machine has thrown at you!
I love walking and haven’t been doing as much as I should because, like you, I’m not a huge fan of cold, wet weather, so I tend to stay indoors more.
What this post has done, is remind me that that I really need to keep exercise at the top of my list of priorities. I’ll definitely start leaving my yoga mat at the bottom of my bed each night so that I can do my yoga before I leave my room each morning.
Please keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress.
Thank you Xina, I am definitely determined to up my fitness level and stimulate the ‘happy hormone’ this winter. I’m glad that I made this decision too as it’s been raining almost daily since I got the treadmill and I’d have definitely not had any exercise the whole time.
I’m also pleased that these musings are encouraging to you and, hopefully, others to look into ways to start and to continue keeping fit.
You’ve also reminded me that I should use my yoga to do my warm ups and cool downs before and after my treadmill walks too..
