“A little progress each day adds up to big results”. – Satya Nani
The 3 runs this week begin with a brisk 5-minute walk. Then 2 repetitions of 1-and-a-half minutes of running, 1-and-a-half minutes of walking, 3 minutes of running and 3 minutes of walking.
Run 1 – With Leeds Girls Can Group
I’m approaching tonight’s run with some trepidation. I’d not managed to complete all last week’s sessions, and the runs are longer tonight – 2 an 3 minutes! However, I managed to complete the session without stopping although I had to slow down a few times – no stopping though.
I must learn to give myself more credit; I beat up myself too much! I don’t know if I could have done any better tonight, if I’d have managed to do all 3 runs in week 2 either. I was very pleased with myself afterwards.
I had so much energy afterwards, I bounced home.
Run 2 – Solo
I procrastinated about this run. I should’ve done it yesterday but I hummed and haa’ed, willing myself to go out in the rain. In the end I decided to stay home.
Today I turned around like a dog chasing its tail before I left the house. I find that when I have to do something like this I look for all sorts of excuses to stay home; then I never leave the house at the time I plan. I suppose that the important thing is that I do go out and get on with the task. The run was quite good after all that.
Taking my time – after Michael Johnson reminded me that it’s just a gentle jog and to take my time.
Half way through the first 3 minutes my knees began to get tired, but I pushed through – then I remembered that I forgot to put on my knee supports!! It got easier as the session progressed; and I realised that it’s best to take it easy, jog gently and this way I can keep going without getting too exhausted.
Having nice music also help the momentum and motivation too. This was another great session which left me feeling really energetic and want to keep moving. I must try to remember this feeling leading up to the start of each run, this way I won’t procrastinate so much.
Run 3 – Solo
I was too much of a stay-at-home to go out in the rain with the group on Monday, so I went alone on Tuesday and did my homework.
Think I’m doing well here. I’m keeping to the instructions on the app – running and walking when I’m told to do so. I feel that in doing a gentle jog instead of a hard run that I’m much more able to keep going without getting overtired and having to stop.
The main stumbling block for me are my knees, which get tired very quickly; but I’m confident that they will get stronger as I continue this journey.
Checking back on Strava, I’m pleased to see that my pace is getting better…Yes! One third of the programme is done – yeah!. The pace steps up next week.
