Couch To 5K Training Sessions Started Tonight, With Leeds Girls Can
‘A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begins With One Step’ – Lao Tzu
Week 1 – Run 1
Got to the park to the gathering group of women of all ages and sizes. The youngest about 10 and the oldest in their 60’s – I think that was me.
Before I Left Home
I was very apprehensive about this but really wanted to get going again. I felt out of shape, that I was not fit enough, and was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to keep up.
It Begins
It started to rain as the Health & Safety instruction and information was being given by the instructors, and when the thunder and lightning started I wanted to go back home. However, once we got going I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it felt and I completed the session feeling on top of the world and very exhilarated.
First Run Completed
With the 8 X 1 minute runs completed, the warm up, cool down and 90 seconds walks in between it took about 25 minutes in total. I got home feeling great and I’m looking forward to doing the homework run on Saturday.
Run 2 – Homework – Solo Run
Preparing To leave Home.
It was a struggle to leave the house today, but I was determined as I’d set myself the task of documenting each run.
The rain was the main stumbling block to me leaving the house. The sky was black and the rain came down in buckets full. So, I checked in with the Met Office Weather App to find a window where there was only cloud and no rain.
I primed my Fitbit, set up the Strava App on my phone, as well as my music using The Amazon Music App. Got water, inhaler, lip salve & tissues in my waist pack and set off. After setting the C25K App I started from home doing the 5 minute warm up on the way to the park.
Running
The smooth, velvety and warm voice of Michael Johnson was just the job to encourage me to do the runs; telling me to just do a gentle jog and to take my time. Bob Marley helped along the way too as I bounced to the rhythm. Yes, I finished it and did the cool down walking home.
It’s done
The rain started again as soon as I walked through the gate. Well timed.
Then a 10 minute post-run yoga to finish off the session.
Gosh, I feel great. So relaxed & content.
Roll on Monday for the last run for the week. Tea time now.
Run 3 – Leeds Girls Can Group
Yes, the first week’s run completed. I feel very happy and elated. It was much easier to leave the house this evening; there was no rain and not too cold.
A Bit Sluggish At The Start Of The Run
Today’s preparation was much easier too. Fitbit, Strava, music and C25K App all primed. Then on to the park to meet the rest of the group, which was bigger this week as more people joined.
Again, I completed all the runs, although I was rather sluggish to start with. I noticed on the 90 second rest walks that I had to take big strides to stretch and relax my hips. This is something to remember as I go along.
Cool down stretches done with the whole group, so no post run yoga today.
Home and a protein pick-me-up smoothie followed.
How I feel?
Overall, I feel quite good about the first week, and I’m looking forward to the second week with more positive anticipation than I did for this first week.
8 more weeks to go. Roll on Monday and the start of Week 2
